Dake Annotated Reference Bible-KJV by Finis J Dake

Translator’s preface to the Ancient Voices Bible and Gospel of John. The Gospel of John, the Dewayne Dulaney Version, is a fresh, modern-language English version from the original Greek. It is intended both for those who are new to the Bible or the New Testament and for those who are regular readers of the Bible. Detailed study notes are provided to give insight to translation problems and choices, cultural backgrounds, textual variants, and theological themes. The translator plans to translate the entire New Testament over time, and then the Old Testament. He welcomes feedback to improve the work. In order to make the translation as accessible as possible, traditional theological terms are avoided. Everyday, natural English equivalents are used instead whenever possible. The King James Version is the Bible of the people, but it has received short shrift among the academic elite. The Authorized Version (KJV) is demonstrably superior to all late-modern translations and critical Greek texts such that no Christian should use any other Bible as sacred scripture. An exhaustive proof of this claim is beyond the scope of this paper. Instead, this paper is a call to action. The debate over which Bible we read is depicted as a simple matter of personal choice, but it is of grave importance. The modernism that leads us to produce “modern” translations allows for the postmodern idea that which Bible we read is subjective, i.e. truth is subjective. The Christian faith is in one God. God has one Son, one Spirit, and one Bible: The Authorized Version.

What the Old Testament Authors Really Cared About

This is the introductory chapter in my gospel-saturated, thematic, Old Testament survey titled WHAT THE OLD TESTAMENT AUTHORS REALLY CARED ABOUT: A SURVEY OF JESUS' BIBLE (Kregel, 2013). It's targeted at college and seminary students and local churches. In this chapter I provide a simple mnemonic for remembering the flow of redemptive history (K.I.N.G.D.O.M.), highlight how all the Old Testament provides foundation for the fulfillment that comes in Christ, and clarify the flow and message of Jesus' Bible, following the Jewish TaNaK arrangement.

The English Bible: the KJV vs the NKJV

This "paper" was originally written in 1999 inspired by my initial comparison of the text and translation of the NKJV with the KJV, done during the late 1980s and early 1990s when the NKJV was still a new thing on the Bible market, based on the original 1982 printing of the NKJV1 published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, USA. For the most part, the NKJV has stayed the same since then, but where there are changes in the more recent printings, this has been taken into account in this final 2023 update of the article.

The Bible is a compilation of writings, one in which can be interpreted in numerous variations. No two interpretations are alike for a particular verse for each person has a different view on it. This paper looks into the variations of interpreting Mark 10:9. Coming from three different worlds, the authors try to explicitly explain the context of the verse through the eyes behind the text, of the text, and of the reader. Thus, resulting in a holistic overview of the deeper meaning of the verse

An accessible, full-color OT survey textbook focusing on the message of each book: Written from an irenic, evangelical perspective, this Old Testament survey is designed to unpack what the biblical authors most intended to communicate in the Scripture that Jesus read. As the corresponding volume to the previously published WHAT THE NEW TESTAMENT AUTHORS REALLY CARED ABOUT (Kregel, 2008), it is well-suited for use in a college, seminary, or church contexts. Students of the Bible will find this full-color textbook accessible and engaging. WHAT THE OLD TESTAMENT AUTHORS REALLY CARED ABOUT is gospel-centered, portraying the Old Testament as the foundation for a fulfillment found in the New Testament. Each chapter is written by an Old Testament scholar who is a skilled teacher at one of the finest evangelical schools across North America and specializes in the biblical book covered. Readers will find: • Introductory issues (who, when, where, why) condensed to one-page snapshots of essential information at the beginning of each chapter; • The clarity of the biblical message enhanced through nearly two hundred high-resolution photographs, over eighty charts and tables, and twelve color maps; • Very readable text, appropriate for broad audiences; • A format simpler and intentionally shorter than many other surveys, making it a very manageable textbook for a single semester Old Testament survey course or a useful guide to accompany devotional reading of Scripture.
